Indian Hockey Federation
The game of Hockey was introduced in India by the British army back in the eighties of the last century. Gradually it became popular among the civilians and a few clubs and associations were formed who promoted tournaments like Aga Khan (Bombay) and Brighton Cup (Calcutta).
In those early days, there was no centralized body to the govern the game in India. The popularity of the game was propelled by the enthusiasm and commitment of a group of sportsmen committed to the growth of the game among Indians.
Soon the game became popular in India as it suited the Indian temperament and their light body physique.
